Disguise (original)
12″ x 12″
oil on canvas
2022
I'm conflicted on my feelings about raccoons. On the one hand they are so cute, but on the other they scare the heck out of me! I both fear and admire their cleverness, resourcefulness and dexterity. I have always been told that raccoons are more dangerous than they appear and it's best to keep a distance. My clearest memory I have with a raccoon was walking towards my front door late and night and seeing two glowing eyes in the darkness. I thought they were the eyes of a cat so I bent down and called for it, because cats! As it got closer I quickly realized that it was definitely NOT a cat, and sped towards the front door fumbling for my keys. Sneaky little creatures.
This painting is part of the on-going series of “half-faces”, depicting a variety of West Coast wildlife, but with only half of their face exposed, acting as a commentary on how we can attempt to, but never fully understand these majestic, wild creatures.
This painting comes ready to hang and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.
“Disguise” is also available as made-to-order paper and canvas prints here.
Shipping fees will be applied at checkout. Free pickup also available in Courtenay, BC.
